SWE Pune Affiliate in collaboration with VIIT College organized this year’s first Outreach Event – the Campus to Corporate Tech program!
The event kicked off with warm introductions, setting the stage for a day filled with learning and networking. The energy in the room was palpable
as students and professionals came together to bridge the gap between academic learning and the corporate tech world.
The Welcome Note from the Affiliate was presented by SWE Pune Affiliate’s Vice President, Aishwarya Dubey who appreciated the University for their coordination and praised all attendees for prioritizing the attending this event on a Friday early morning.
Keynote session on “The Future is Equal: Tackling Gender Bias in Tech” focused on strategies to overcome gender biases and promote inclusivity within the tech industry. It was inspiring to see so many participants engaged in conversations about creating a more equitable future. One of the key discussions centered around creating a personal brand. Our speaker Kavita John, (Executive Director Global HR Operations) at Air Products emphasized the importance of self-branding in a competitive industry. She shared practical tips on how to build a strong personal brand, including leveraging social media, networking effectively, and showcasing one’s skills and achievements. The insights provided were invaluable for anyone looking to make their mark in the tech world.
The panel discussion on the topic of “Emerging Trends in Technology” was another standout moment. Our expert panel shared valuable insights on the latest trends and innovations shaping the tech landscape. Our esteemed panelists, Sujay Sirur (Architect and systems lead) at Cummins Technologies India Ltd, Mandira Bhattacharyya (Engineering Director Mobility) at Eaton & Suchitra Alurkar (Engineering Program Manager) at Honeywell Automation India Ltd. explored how AI is revolutionizing various sectors and emphasized the importance of understanding AI fundamentals. They discussed the growing demand for data analysts and the skills required with data analysis techniques. They advised students to seek out mentors who can provide guidance, support, and valuable industry insights. Sustainability in tech was also a major focus, as panelists encouraged students to consider the environmental impact of their work and to innovate with sustainability in mind. Overall, the panel discussion skillfully moderated by SWE Pune Affiliate’s Outreach Manager, Sheetal Kenjale, was incredibly informative and inspiring, leaving students with a clear understanding of the emerging trends in technology and the skills needed to succeed.
During the Fireside Chat on “Study abroad or start working?” Shweta Baid (Founder & CED) at Shail Digital shared her personal journeys and provided guidance on making the right career choices. Whether considering further studies or starting a career, stories resonated with many and offered a wealth of practical advice. The fireside chat was interactive, with students actively participating and asking questions. The candid and honest sharing from the alumni provided clarity and confidence to many who were uncertain about their next steps.
The SWE Pune Affiliate’s Outreach Lead, Priti Kulkarni thanked the audience for their valuable participation and immensely appreciated the excellent support from the organizing team at VIIT including key faculty,

The day concluded with Speed Mentoring sessions, where participants had the opportunity to engage in quick, impactful conversations with industry professionals. These sessions were a hit, providing personalized guidance and fostering meaningful connections. Our mentors, who are leaders in their domains, provided mentoring on key market topics.

WOW That’s Engineering | September 2024

Whirlpool, India, in association with the SWE Pune Affiliate, organised an event called “WOW That’s Engineering”, which serves as a platform to raise awareness and curiosity about STEM subjects by encouraging girls to participate in science activities. Over 40 young girl students from a local government school participated in the event on 28th September 2024.
The event began early in the morning with the picking of the kids from the school and bringing them to the Whirlpool office.
A tasty breakfast followed by a Safety briefing and all was good to begin.
SWE Pune Affiliate introduction was given to the students followed by a Whirlpool introduction.
Then begin the first activity, Scribbler Robot, simple materials with infinite fun. Kids had a great sense of accomplishment once they were able to create the robot and finally make it scribble.
The second activity was even more interesting where the kids had to make a turbine using a bag full of raw materials.
The volunteers enthusiastically chipped in wherever necessary and the entire room was full of smiles.
There was also a ‘product hall’ walk, organized for the kids where they saw the latest products of Whirlpool.
Whirlpool leaders Sushil Vishwakarma, Ashwini Shingote, Amit Sood, Amandeep Singh Jassal motivated the kids by their presence. They inspired and advised the kids to keep learning and be sure to make use of their full potential.
The event ended on a beautiful note with the distribution of SWE outreach certificates. After the event, the guests and participants were invited to a scrumptious lunch arranged by the team. SWE Pune Affiliate hopes to organize more such events in the future to engage children and give them a scientific space to spread their wings and explore new horizons.

SWE scholarships| 2024 – 2025

In 2023, SWE granted 330+ scholarships worth $1.5M+.
We have exciting news ― SWE scholarships are now available in India with expanded eligibility criteria!
SWE scholarships support students who identify as women and are pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in engineering, engineering technology, or fields related to engineering. Students who will be attending university ― as incoming first years through Ph.D. candidates ― in the 2024-2025 academic year are eligible to apply. Applicants must be enrolled in either a university where a SWE Global Affiliate is established or a Washington Accord-accredited program. Plus, students only need to complete one application to be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. The application process is entirely online, including the submission of recommendation letters, transcripts and a resume.

WOW That’s Engineering| September 2023

WOW That’s Engineering” event in India was incepted by SWE Pune Affiliate for the under privileged schoolgirls to encourage them to continue their education, give hands on experience in various science & engineering activities and to motivate them to choose their career in STEM​.
This was an interactive event for girls of grades 8 and grade 9 designed to expose young women to the world of engineering through exciting hands-on projects. Every year different organizations sponsor this event to support the SWE activity. This year we had Air Products sponsor the event with SWE and had participation of 50 Girl students from (KK Ghule Vidyalaya, Rait Shikshan, Manjari), 2 teachers, 2 NGO volunteers (NGO-Being Volunteer), SWE leaders SWE ambassadors, SWE Outreach team, AP volunteers, HR & Admin.
After breakfast, a warm welcome of attendees ( Students, Teachers, NGO Volunteers, SWE members ,AP Leadership and AP Volunteers by Priti Kulkarni followed by the Safety briefing.
Ajit Shrivastava – Director -ASU PL India, delivered an interactive motivational talk on different dimensions of careers and significance of dreaming big. His speech resonated with the students as he gave many examples including opportunities in Agro industry.
A motivational video on “A Small Step” and a small game “Walk -Stop, Jump In” was conducted by the team as a kick off activity of the event. An individual activity of hydraulic lift ramp was also developed by students.
Students also enjoyed playing a 10-Minute game “Kaun Banega Housiepati” based on GK, Bollywood, Maths, science quizzes.
They also performed a group activity on electronic play lab and created a Robot from it. In addition to it, they learnt the principles of electricity, teamwork & collaboration. Their enthusiasm was overflowing as they explored a completely new world.
The event ended with inspirational talk from Sheetal Patil. We are sure that this initiative will continue to impact young minds positively!

SWE Pune Affiliate in collaboration with Society of Women Engineers – COEP Affiliate successfully is conducting  its “Campus to Corporate” program at COEP Technological University on 9th September 2023. The event aims to help students grow into future leaders who would understand the skill and attitude required to succeed in the industry. It is an opportunity for the students to connect with industry leaders and get their guidance as well as mentorship.

SWE Affiliate presents “Paathshaala”- a Vocational Training session for the students of Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Sanstha to spark aspiration. SWE has always been keen about developing young minds and this is one of our drive to encourage students to follow their goals with all the passion and motivation!
